Hobbes' Laws of Nature
I really understand Hobbes' first law of nature now, If you cannot obtain peace peacefully, then obtain it any way you can. This is a very contradicting statement that is indirectly stating that if you don't have peace, fight to get it. Im not quite sure i agree with this because if your searching for peace you shouldn't be unpeacful to get it. Hobbes' second law i really like however, the basics of it are that people need to be equal. If i do something to you, you can do something equal to what i did back. I like this because in order to obtain peace in a government i think there needs to be some sort of equality between the government and the citizens. Hobbes' third law i also like a lot. The total of it is to always keep your promises. I think this also plays into keeping peace because when promises are broken, people argue and in a country to country sense, war could break out. I think when we make a promise or even statement, we need to stick by our words more often.

Theme
I think exactly what I said on the test. I think that the main theme of The House on Mango Street is poverty. The book is about esperanza, how she lives in poverty and the good and bad times she has with it. "They think we will attack them with shiny knifes"(Those who dont pg. 33). This quote is showing the poverty in the neighborhood they live in. They live in a neighborhood where people come in and fear the poverty that is shown. " Aunt Lala sad she had found a job for me at the Peter Pan Photo Finishers on North Broadway where she worked, and how old i was, and to show up tomorrow saying i was one year older, and that was that"(The First job pg. 65). This quote shows that esperanza had to lie she was a year older to work. This is an indirect characterzation that she needed to make money because her family needed it.

Indirect vs. Direct quotes
The indirect quote is also from this chapter. "They think we will attack them with shiny knifes". This quote is indirectly stating that because of the mexican neighborhood they live in people think that they are dangerous. She is implying that the people in the world are all steriotypical and that she has been involved in that.
